What are TQWL Confirmation Chances?

08 May, 2024

Synopsis

  • TQWL tickets represent last-minute unconfirmed or waitlisted tickets.

  • The chances that TQWL tickets may be confirmed are typically low.

  • You can increase your chances of getting a confirmed Tatkal ticket by logging in on PayZapp a few minutes before the ‘Tatkal’ booking window opens.

Digitalisation has made everything accessible. Where once you had to step out in the hot sun to do your chores, today you can do everything on your mobile phone. Case in point – booking train tickets. With apps like HDFC Bank’s PayZapp, which integrates the IRCTC platform, you can book your train tickets online. PayZapp also allows you to book tickets until the last day before your travel date. While booking such last-minute tickets, you may see the code TQWL upon checking availability. If the question ‘does TQWL get confirmed’ has crossed your mind, this article is for you.

Understanding TQWL

The Indian Railways (IR) uses various codes to indicate your booking status, one of which is TQWL or ‘Tatkal Quota Waitlisted’ ticket. Essentially, when a last minute travel plan crops up, and you need to book a train ticket during an emergency, you typically have to book a ‘Tatkal’ or immediate ticket. This is because the general quota window for booking tickets is closed 24 hours before the departure time.

However, like you, there may other passengers who may need to book last-minute tickets. When there are multiple passengers booking a limited quota ‘Tatkal’ ticket, there is a chance that your booking may not be confirmed – that you may be waitlisted. So, instead of finding the code ‘CNF’ with the coach number and berth number, your ticket may comprise the code ‘TQWL’, causing you to wonder about your TQWL confirmation probability.

TQWL – Chances of Confirmation

When you book a ‘Tatkal’ ticket, you are among the last few people to book a train ticket. There may be several other people in the queue, who may also have booked waitlisted tickets. For instance, people who have tickets in the ‘GNWL’ (General Waitlisted) quota are those who may have tried to book their tickets at least a month in advance but may not have gotten a confirmed ticket.

In the spirit of fairness, the IRCTC priorities people who booked their tickets before you. So, when passengers with confirmed tickets cancel their tickets, the IRCTC allots their seats to people in the GNWL quota. There are also other waiting lists quotas that the IRCTC prioritises before allocating seats to Tatkal quota passengers. In simple words, your TQWL confirmation chances are rather low.

Should I Book a TQWL Ticket If Confirmation Chances are Low?

If you’re contemplating whether or not you should still book tickets in the TQWL quota, consider these factors:

  • You can book tickets if you see the TQWL status as TQWL1 or TQWL2, where the numbers indicate the number of people waitlisted before you. If the number is small, you can take a chance – your TQWL confirmation chances may be high in such cases.

  • If the number exceeds the 1st 10 digits, i.e., if the availability shows TQWL11 and onwards, it is best to avoid booking a TQWL ticket and make other arrangements.

  • Before booking the TQWL tickets, consider checking the number of tickets/people waitlisted in the general quota. If that number is high, you may not get a confirmed tatkal ticket.

  • If you’re booking a ticket during the holiday season, check for trains on different routes. If the other routes also have a heavy waiting list, you should avoid booking TQWL tickets altogether.

How to Book a Confirmed Tatkal Ticket?

To increase your chances of getting a confirmed Tatkal ticket, you must ensure you have a strong and stable internet connection. You can follow these steps on PayZapp Online Payment App to book your tickets:

  1. Log in on PayZapp (IRCTC-integrated) platform before the ticket window opens at 10 and 11 a.m. for AC and Non-AC classes, respectively. Ensure your IRCTC account is linked to PayZapp before logging in.

  2. Start filling in the booking form on PayZapp (arrival and departure station names, travel date, etc.) at least 5 minutes before the booking window opens.

  3. Ensure you know the train number and timings, so you can quickly make the selection. If you are quick, you will see ‘Tatkal’ tickets available, instead of the code TQWL.

  4. Choose the train and number of seats, enter the passengers’ details, your email ID and contact number.

  5. Proceed to the payments page, choose your preferred mode of payment and complete the booking process.

Once done, IRCTC will send you your ticket on your email address. If your internet connection is strong, and if you’re swift enough, you stand every chance to get a confirmed Tatkal Ticket.
