What is the New Aadhaar App?

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) introduced the new Aadhaar app, featuring the newest innovation in the app – the integration of Aadhaar Face Authentication. The newly unveiled Aadhaar mobile app was showcased during the third edition of the Aadhaar Samvaad series.

The new app will also contain features that will allow you to share only the necessary data, giving you complete control over your personal information. It will also eliminate the need for physical photocopies.

What is Aadhaar Face Authentication?

The new Aadhaar face authentication feature will allow you to authenticate your identity through facial recognition technology that is associated with the Aadhaar photograph stored in your Aadhaar profile. Here’s how the UIDAI face authentication works:

• Once you have access to the new app, you can capture a live photo with your camera.

• The app will match the captured image with the one stored in the UIDAI repository.

Similar to UPI payment QR codes, Aadhaar verification codes will be available at points of authentication. For instance, while checking in at a hotel, you will be able to scan a QR code at the check-in counter to verify your identity. This way, you won’t need to provide your physical Aadhaar card.
