FAQs
1. What is IMPS?
IMPS(Immediate Payment Service) is a fund transfer facility where you can send or receive money instantly 24 X 7, 365 days.
2. What is MMID?
Mobile Money Identification Number (MMID) is a seven-digit number of which the first four digits are the unique identification number of the bank offering IMPS. The MMID and registered Mobile number are required to be shared with the Remitter to receive funds in the account.
3. How can I generate MMID?
Net Banking or logon to m.hdfcbank.com from mobile internet browser
- Login to NetBanking, and click on Generate MMID transaction in left menu, under Request section
- Enter the details and Confirm
- MMID is generated for your account

Mobile Banking
- Login to MobileBanking App
- Click on accounts section
- Click on Generate MMID
OR
Phone Banking
- Call PhoneBanking number of your region
- Select Language
- Select 1 for Banking
- Select 6 to talk to agent to register for IMPS and generation of MMID
- Request for IMPS registration will be taken and MMID will be sent to your Mobile number by next working day
4. How do I send money through IMPS from NetBanking using Mobile Number & MMID?
- Log into HDFC Bank NetBanking using your Customer ID and Password
- Click on "Funds Transfer" Tab
- Click on IMPS Funds transfer using account number, enter the details, and confirm the transaction.
- You will receive the confirmation sms for IMPS transaction

5. How do I send money through IMPS from Mobile Banking using Account Number & ISFC?
Android and Iphone App
- Logon to MobileBanking
- Go to Pay -> Money Tranfer Tab
- Click on Transfer Money to Anyone, Anywhere
- Select added payee or Select Transfer using MMID
- Fill the required details i.e. Amount and Remarks or Beneficiary Mobile Number, Beneficiary MMID, Amount and Remark and confirm
- You will receive the confirmation sms for IMPS transaction
6. How do I add a Beneficiary for IMPS?
For IMPS you will need to begin by adding a beneficiary. Then you can go on to make a funds transfer.
For online transaction, both the NetBanking and Third Party Funds Transfer facilities should be enabled. (If you’re not yet registered, just fill the form at your closest HDFC Bank branch).
Steps to add a IMPS beneficiary-
Step 1 - Log into HDFC Bank NetBanking/MobileBanking using your Customer ID and Password
Step 2 - Click on Funds Transfer tab
Step 3 - Click ‘Add a Beneficiary’ under Request tab, and then select Beneficiary Type 'Transfer to other bank'
Step 4 - Fill in the details(Account No. & IFSC or Mobile No. & MMID)
Step 5 - Click ‘Add’, then ‘Confirm’
Step 6 – Authenticate yourself at the secure access step, and wait for your confirmation message
Note:
- Beneficiary will get added in 30 minutes. Post addition, you can transfer money to any IMPS registered beneficiary as per the limits mentioned below:
- Rs 50,000 in first 24 hours (Post that, the Third Party Transfer limits will apply)
- IMPS using MMID, Rs 5000 per day per Cust ID (on either of the channel Net Banking or Mobile Banking)
7. What are the timings for initiating and receiving IMPS transfers?

8. How long does it take for the remittance to get credited into the beneficiary account number?
The funds are credited to the beneficiary immediately.
9. Does the customer need to register to remit funds through IMPS using Mobile Number and MMID?
Yes. Customer needs to register for Mobile Banking for remitting funds through IMPS using Mobile Number and MMID.
10. What happens in case the remitter enters wrong beneficiary details for remittance?
If the beneficiary details required for making a remittance (such as MMID, mobile number) are wrong, there is a very high possibility of the transaction getting rejected. If you are remitting money using account number, please check the account number as amount will be credited on the basis of account number only.
11. In case of a transaction failure in IMPS, by when will the funds be reversed in customers account?
If the status of the transaction is shown as not available/pending, as per NPCI guidelines request you to wait for 2 days for reversal of funds in your account or credit to beneficiary's account. In case of non-receipt of funds after 2 days, please call or write to us with the following details:
- RRN (Transaction Reference Number)
- Date of transaction
- Amount of transaction
- Remitter Bank Name
- Beneficiary Bank Name
12. Can a customer remit and / or receive remittance using the mobile number other than the one registered with the bank?
The customer can remit and / or receive funds using the registered mobile number only. In case he / she needs to remit / receive funds using the other mobile number, he / she will have to approach the bank and complete the process of changing the registered mobile number for mobile banking.
13. Which are the participating banks on IMPS funds transfer using Mobile number and MMID?

14. Which are the participating banks on IMPS funds transfer using Account Number and IFSC?

15. What happens if a customer transfers funds using IMPS to a Bank account belonging to a Bank that is not enabled for IMPS Funds Transfer?
Transactions to non-IMPS enabled Banks will be rejected and the funds will not be debited from the customer's account.
16. Can I generate MMID if I have an NRE/NRO account?
No, MMID generation is only allowed for Resident Accounts.
17. Is this facility available for NRI customers?
Yes, NRI customers can transfer funds from their NRI account to a resident account using IMPS.
18. Is the beneficiary also required to register for IMPS?
Only for IMPS using Mobile Number and MMID. Your beneficiary (either an HDFC Bank customer or another Bank’s customer) has to have his/her mobile number registered with his/her respective bank in which the account is hosted. Your beneficiary should also have a valid 7 digit MMID provided by his/her bank. Just as you have, your beneficiary will also have a unique MMID for each bank account linked to his/her mobile number.
19. Where can I see the summary or status of all the IMPS transactions that has been done by me?
You can view the summary through Net Banking and Mobile Banking
NetBanking
- Login to NetBanking, and Click on "Funds Transfer" Tab
- Click on “View IMPS Funds transfer” in the Enquire section, and Input Reference number or Specify date to search your transaction and press ok
- System will display the list of IMPS transaction. Click on the reference number of the transaction to check the status of the transaction
MobileBanking (Android and Iphone App)
- Logon to MobileBanking
- Click on Money Transfer Tab
- Under History, IMPS transaction details along with Status will be reflected.
- Click on Status for transaction details
(Note : History includes transfer details of last 7days)
20. If the transaction has failed due to technical reasons either at the Bank’s or NPCI’s end will I get any compensation in the form of Loss of Interest?
No. If the transaction has failed / timed out / declined due to technical reasons, Bank shall not bear any liability to compensate the same in the form of interest or actual amount sent to the Beneficiary.

22. How to send money using IMPS?
You can transfer funds through IMPS using Mobile Number & MMID and Account Number & IFSC.
23. Do I need to register for mobile banking to transfer funds through IMPS using Mobile Number & MMID?
Registration to MB is not mandatory for transfer fund using Mobile Number & MMID. You can generate MMID from Net Banking and same can be further used for IMPS fund transfer.
24. Can I transfer or receive funds using the mobile number other than the registered mobile number with the bank?
No. You can transfer or receive funds using the registered mobile number only.
25. Can NR customers generate MMID?
No. MMID generation facility is only allowed for Resident customers.
26. Does beneficiary also require to generate and register MMID for IMPS fund transfer using Mobile & MMID?
Yes. Your beneficiary (either an HDFC Bank customer or another Bank’s customer) has to have mobile number registered with respective bank in which the account is hosted. Your beneficiary should also have a valid 7 digit MMID provided by the respective bank. 27. How do I send money through IMPS from MobileBanking using Mobile Number & MMID?
- Login to MobileBanking.
- Go to "Funds Transfer" Tab.
- Click on "IMPS" button
- Fill the details (i.e. Beneficiary Mobile Number, Beneficiary MMID, Amount and Remarks) and confirm.
- You will receive the confirmation SMS for IMPS transaction.
28. What is the maximum amount that I can transfer through IMPS?

29. Can I transfer any amount after adding the beneficiary?
- For transfer using Account & IFSC, a maximum of Rs. 50,000 (in full or parts) can be transferred by IMPS to a newly added beneficiary, in the first 24 hours.
- Post 24hours, Maximum limit per transaction - Rs 5 lakhs
- Maximum amount in a day as per the TPT limits
30. How much time does it take for an IMPS transaction to get credited?
The funds are credited to the beneficiary immediately.
31. What happens in case the remitter enters wrong beneficiary details?
- If the beneficiary details required for making a transaction (such as MMID, mobile number) are wrong, there is a high possibility of the transaction getting rejected.
- If you are transferring money using account number, please check with beneficiary as amount will be credited on the basis of account number only.
- In case of non credit, request you to contact branch with all the details & beneficiary bank account statement.
