Enhanced security for card transactions
1. How to Enable Online transactions on your HDFC Bank Credit Card: A Step-by-Step Guide
As per RBI guidelines to encourage secure International transactions, it is mandatory to temporarily disable Online usage service on Credit Cards for customers who have been inactive for the service prior to 31st July, 2020 or have been issued a new card (fresh issue/re-issue/replacement/renewal/upgrade) post 5th February, 2021
You can continue to use your Card at ATMs & for purchases at merchant outlets near you.
This is simply a precautionary measure to ensure a safe banking experience for you. You can easily re-enable Online usage with the below mentioned steps.
Using EVA
- Click here to open HDFC Bank’s Digital Assistant - EVA
- Click on Manage my Credit Card >> Online(E-Commerce) Transactions
- Alternatively, you may type How to enable online transactions on my Credit Card?
- Provide your 10-digit mobile number.
- An OTP gets triggered to the mobile number. Enter the same.
- Enter the last 4 digits of your Credit Card number.
Current status for online transaction type will be shown as disabled in the screen. Enable the same. Congratulations!!! You just enabled your Online Transactions.
Using WhatsApp Banking
1. On your mobile phone, add HDFC Bank’s Official WhatsApp number – 7065970659 to your contacts
2. In case you are viewing this on mobile Click here to add
3. Send the text Manage my Credit Card to the above number
4. You will receive a reply asking to choose from various options. Choose option corresponding to
Online Transactions (e.g. just type numeric 2)
5. An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. Enter the same.
6. You will be prompted to enter the last 4 digits of your Credit Card number. Enter
7. Current status for online transaction type will be shown as disabled in the screen. Enable the same.
Congratulations!!! You just enabled your Online Transactions.
Using NetBanking
1. Login to NetBanking using your Customer ID
2. Go to Cards Tab>>Request>> Set Card Usage/Limits
3. Your existing Daily Domestic Usage/Limits and Daily International Usage/Limits for all types of
transactions would be shown. Online Usage would be disabled under both sections.
4. Switch on Online Usage under both sections. Then Click on Continue.
5. In the review page, click Confirm
6. Enter the OTP and click Continue & it’s done
Congratulations!!! You just enabled your Online Transactions.
2. How to Enable Contactless transactions on your HDFC Bank Credit Card: A Step-by-Step Guide
As per RBI guidelines to encourage secure Contactless transactions, it is mandatory to temporarily disable Contactless usage service on Credit Cards for customers who have been inactive for the service prior to 25th January, 2021 or have been issued a new card (fresh issue/re-issue/replacement/renewal/upgrade) post 5th February, 2021
You can continue to use your Card at Online stores, ATMs, & for purchases at merchant outlets near you using contact mode (swipe/dip and pin).
This is simply a precautionary measure to ensure a safe banking experience for you. You can easily re-enable contactless usage with the below mentioned steps.

FAQs on Enhanced Security Feature for HDFC Bank Credit Cards
1. What is this new feature all about?
This feature allows you to easily switch on-off various transaction types on your HDFC Bank Credit Card across various channels - IVR, Net Banking, Whatsapp and EVA with ease. It would also facilitate to modify daily transaction limits for both domestic and international for the following: -
- Merchant Outlet – Spending limit for point of sale (POS) at physical stores
- ATM Withdrawal – Cash withdrawal limit when using your credit card at an ATM
- Online Transaction – Spending limit at websites and mobile applications
- Contactless Transaction – Spending limit for Tap to Pay transactions Not only does this feature give you more control on your HDFC Bank Credit Card like never before, this feature is also a way to increase security of credit card transactions.
2. What are the new controls being provided?
There are eight (8) new controls that have been provided. You can either switch them on-off or set daily usage limits for them.

3. Why have I received this communication (Email/SMS) on disablement of Online/Contactless/International usage feature on my HDFC Bank Credit Card?
You have received this communication (Email/SMS) because online/contactless/international usage feature on your HDFC Bank Credit Card has been disabled.
4. Why is my Online/Contactless/International usage feature disabled?
In line with RBI circular RBI/2019-20/142 DPSS.CO.PD No.1343/02.14.003/2019-20 dated 15th January 2020 on enhancing security of card transaction, all credit cards that have not been used for online/ international usage prior to 31st July 2020 are to be disabled for online/ international usage, as a security measure. Similarly, all credit cards that have not been used for contactless usage prior to 25th January 2021 are to be disabled for contactless usage.
Also, all new cards or existing cards renewed or reissued or upgraded on or after 1st October 2020 would have their international usage service disabled. Similarly, all new cards or existing cards renewed or reissued or upgraded on or after 5th February 2021 would have their online and contactless usage service disabled.
5. Can I still use my credit card?
- Online Usage Disabled
You can continue to use your Card for purchases at stores near you & ATMs.
- Contactless Usage Disabled
You can continue to use your Card at online stores, ATMs & for purchases at stores in contact (swipe/dip and pin) mode.
- International Usage Disabled
You can continue to use your Card at Domestic online sites, ATMs & for purchases at stores near you.
6. How long does it take to enable Online/Contactless/International usage feature?
The feature will be enabled instantly.
7. What would be the charges for this facility?
This facility is free of cost.
8. How many times can I Enable/Disable Online/Contactless/International usage?
You may enable/disable online/contactless/international usage feature as many times as you wish.
9. Is my Online/Contactless/International usage already disabled? Or will it be disabled in future?
Please refer to the SMS/ Email communication from the Bank confirming online/contactless/international usage on your credit card is (already) disabled.
10. What if I try to do an Online/Contactless/International transaction after Bank has disabled these transactions?
The transactions will be declined. You must enable the transactions by using our Netbanking, WhatsApp Banking, EVA or IVR.
11. Can I enable my Online/Contactless/International usage through Mobile banking/or any other means?
No. Currently you can enable / disable these services via Netbanking, WhatsApp Banking, EVA or IVR only.
12. Can I enable my Online/Contactless/International usage by providing my consent over telephone/email/SMS?
No. As per RBI, request via Phonebanking or Email or SMS is not allowed. Customers need to enable or disable the online/contactless/international usage service themselves using the Bank’s digital platforms (NetBanking, Whatsapp Banking, EVA or IVR).
13. I got my new credit card after 5th February ‘21 – my new card is not working at Online sites. What should I do?
Customers who have got a new card or got their existing card renewed or reissued or upgraded on or after 5th February 2021 would have their Online usage service disabled. However, you can enable this immediately by using Netbanking, WhatsApp Banking, EVA or IVR.
14. I got my new credit card after 5th February ‘21 – I am not able to do Contactless/Tap to Pay transactions on my new card. What should I do?
Customers who have got a new card or got their existing card renewed or reissued or upgraded on or after 5th October 2020 would have their Contactless usage service disabled. However, you can enable this immediately by using Netbanking, WhatsApp Banking, EVA or IVR.
15. I got my new credit card after 1st October ‘20 – my new card is not working at International stores. What should I do?
Customers who have got a new card or got their existing card renewed or reissued or upgraded on or after 5th October 2020 would have their International usage service disabled. However, you can enable this immediately by using Netbanking, WhatsApp Banking, EVA or IVR.
16. I lost my old card and applied for new card after 5th Feb ’21 and new card is yet to arrive. I am not able to do Online/Contactless/International transactions on my old card. What should I do?
For customers who have applied for replacement on or after 5th February 2021, online/ contactless/ international usage service on their old card. However, you can enable this immediately by using Netbanking, WhatsApp Banking, EVA or IVR.
17. I had already set Net Limit/ Sub Limit/ International Limit on my existing credit card. How will the new controls look like?
All existing limits (whether they are daily or billing cycle) would get converted into respective daily usage limits after 5th February 2021. In case there are multiple limits set which are applicable to the same new control, the lower of the existing limits would get set. e.g. if the customer has set both Net Limit and International Limit on his card, for the International Online Daily Usage Limit, lower of the Net Limit and International Limit would get set.
18. I had already set my Sub Limit for my Add on credit card. How will the new controls affect this?
The Sub Limit for Add on credit card (whether it is daily or billing cycle) would get converted into daily usage limit for all transaction types for both domestic as well as international after 5th February 2021.
