A FASTag ouses (Radio Frequency Identification) RFID for electronic toll collection. Why should I get a FASTag, you ask? Well, if you have a FASTag, you can skip the queue at the toll plaza. You save time, fuel and the inconvenience of carrying cash around. Your payment is deducted from your FASTag wallet or bank account.

So, if you have just bought a car, getting a FASTag is a good idea. In fact, post February 16th 2021 onwards, it is compulsory to have one. If you don’t, you are liable to pay double the toll amount. If you have an existing vehicle with the tag, you are probably aware of the benefits of FASTag in new cars. How to get FASTag for new cars

Before we get into the details of how to get FASTag for new cars, we need to know if you are an existing customer or a new one. The process is slightly different for both.

New customer

You have just purchased a new car and want to get a FASTag for it to enjoy the benefits, it is a simple process to apply for one. The first step is to get a wallet or a prepaid card. With HDFC Bank FASTag, you can apply for a prepaid card online in a few steps. If you are an existing HDFC Bank customer, the bank uses your current KYC details for completing your application. You will have to provide your vehicle registration details. If you don’t have an HDFC Bank account, you can still get a card. Fill out the application form, submit your vehicle registration details and upload your KYC documents. Submit your application. Once the bank has reviewed your application, an RFID sticker is mailed to your registered address. Stick the tag on the windscreen of your new car and get started.

Existing customer

If you have an existing FASTag card or wallet, you can attach a new tag to your existing wallet. Log in to your account through the HDFC Bank Fastag portal.

If you are using the tag as an individual, you need to click on retail login. For corporates, the bank provides a separate log in. Once logged in, you can apply for a new tag. Key in your registration details for the new car apply. The FASTag sticker will be posted to your registered address. Stick it on your windscreen to enjoy the benefits of electronic toll collection program.

FASTag charges for new car

There is a nominal fee that you have to pay to get a new FASTag for your car. If you have a car, jeep or van, the RFID-enabled FASTag will cost you Rs100. Apart from this, you have to pay a refundable security deposit of Rs250. This is returned to you if you surrender your tag in proper condition. When you purchase a FASTag for the first time, the prepaid card comes with a threshold amount of Rs150 which you have to pay. So, when you get a FASTag in new car, you may have to pay around Rs500 to get started.
