Secure Access
HDFC Bank has implemented an extra security solution for its customers - Secure Access
Secure Access is an additional layer of security that is essentially a solution protecting your account from hackers and fraudsters. Secure Access requires a one-time registration effort from your side.
Currently following transactions are covered under Secure Access
- Transfer from one HDFC Bank account to other HDFC Bank account holders (under distinct customer ID)
- Transfer from HDFC Bank account to any other Bank's account (also known as RTGS & NEFT)
- Visa CardPay
- Third Party Demand Draft through NetBanking

- HDFC Bank's NetBanking login is now a two step process with Secure
Access image and text verification.
- Screen 1 is where you key-in your customer id
- Screen 2 is for your password
This is done as a security measure. On putting in your customer id, our backend will verify if you are registered for Secure Access. - If you are not registered for Secure Access, the next screen will have a box to key-in your password.
- If, however, you are registered for Secure Access, you will be shown an image and text that have been personalised by you during registration for Secure Access.

Third Party Transfer
We offer Third-Party Transfer (TPT), a feature you can use to transfer funds from your HDFC Bank account to another account (called the beneficiary), within HDFC Bank or any other bank, anywhere in India.
You can conduct a Third Party Transfer from your account to other Bank accounts using:
- National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) - The Funds transfer request made by 6 p.m. will be presented to RBI on the same day. The Funds transfer request made after 6 p.m. will be presented to RBI on the next working day. On Saturdays, funds transfer request made by 12 pm. will be presented to RBI on the same day and funds transfer request made after 12 pm will be presented to RBI on the next working day. Funds transfer request made on non- working days will also be presented to RBI on the next working day. Once the transactions are presented to RBI, they typically get credited into the Beneficiary Account on the same day. Click here to know more.
- Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) - The Funds transfer request can be made only from 9 a.m to 3.30 p.m.from Monday to Friday and from 9 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. on Saturdays.There will be no RTGS transactions possible on Bank holidays and Sundays.The money will reach the Beneficiary's Bank within the time stipulated by RBI. Once the transactions are presented to RBI, they typically get credited into the Beneficiary Account on the same day. Click here to know more.
TPT can also be used for:
- Transferring funds from your HDFC Bank account to other HDFC Bank accounts with different Customer IDs. TPT is a real time transaction, which means that the transfer will show up immediately in your accounts.
- Online Shopping. Click here to know more.
- Visa CardPay From your account to any Visa Credit Card within India.Your account will be debited online, and the funds will be sent to the beneficiary Bank within 2 working days using the Visa system. The Beneficiary Bank will then transfer the funds to the beneficiary's card account. Click here to know more
- For issuance of Third Party Demand Drafts from your account. DDs will be couriered to the mailing address / beneficiary address provided within 4 working days.
Please note you are only allowed to transfer up to a maximum of Rs. 10,00,000/- per Customer ID every day using this facility. This amount can be transferred in parts or in a single lump sum.

Follow the below steps to register for 'Third Party Transfer' (TPT) facility,
- Login to NetBanking using your Customer ID and IPIN
- Click on the ‘Third Party Transfer Tab’ and follow the instructions
- A One time Password ( OTP) would be sent to your registered mobile number
Please Note:
- This service is for all customers who have their mobile numbers registered with the Bank
- Current account holders need to be registered for Financial rights inorder to conduct TPT transactions

Alternatively, you can also fill up a TPT application form and submit it to the nearest HDFC Bank Branch along with an original photo ID proof and a self-attested copy of it.
NRI Customers unable to visit the branch, can submit the TPT registration form along with self attested Photo ID Proof.

- Request received through PhoneBanking, e-mail, scanning, or fax copies would not be processed.
- If your form is in order, we will activate the TPT facility within 4 working days from the day we receive your request

To transfer funds to TPT Accounts, you need to add a beneficiary. Doing that is simple, just follow these steps:
1. Log on to www.hdfcbank.com and enter your Customer ID and password (IPIN)
2. Go to Third Party Transfer and click on ‘Add a beneficiary’
3. Select the beneficiary type-transfer within HDFC Bank, transfer to another bank using NEFT, or transfer to other banks using RTGS
4. Fill the beneficiary details and confirm. It would take 12 hrs for beneficiary activation due to security reasons.
5. To transfer funds, choose the account you want to transfer from and also the beneficiary
6. Enter the transaction details, including the amount, and submit
7. Adding a beneficiary is a one time processPlease note:
- The validity of the beneficiary's account will be the sole responsibility of the Third Party Transfer user
- A joint accountholder will not be allowed to transfer money unless he has Financial Transaction Rights
- There are special regulations governing the Financial Transaction Rights for Current Account customers

What is Secure Access? Secure Access is an additional layer of security that is essentially a solution protecting your account from hackers and fraudsters. The primary aim of the service is to monitor your important NetBanking transactions covered under Secure Access, with an aim to block/ report any deviant transactions.

What transactions are covered under the TPT facility? Currently following transactions are covered under Secure Access:
- Transfer from one HDFC Bank account to other HDFC Bank account holders (under distinct customer ID)
- Transfer from HDFC Bank account to any other Bank's account (also known as RTGS & NEFT)

Do I have to register for the Secure Access on a Compulsory Basis Yes, in order to perform your Third Party Transder or Online Shopping transactions, registration for Secure Access is Compulsory.

How do I register for Secure Access Service? Incase you are not registered for Secure Access, you will be asked to register for it post Third Party Transfer registration or while attempting DirectPay/online shopping transactions.

Can I register for Secure Access service through the Branch / PhoneBanking/ ATM or any other mode? No, in order to register for Secure Access Service, you need to register for this service through an on line medium only (post logging into NetBanking)

Will my Customer ID or NetBanking Password (IPIN) change? No, your Customer ID and IPIN will not change and will remain the same as they were.

Is there a change in how I Log in to my NetBanking Page? Yes, going forward, your login process for HDFC Bank's NetBanking will be a two step process with Secure Access image and text verfication.
- Page 1 where in your Customer ID will need to be entered
- Page 2 where in your IPIN will have to be entered.

Secure Access - Registration Process and How does it work? Secure Access works on the basic principle about you remembering / logging on to your correct NetBanking site. The Secure Access registration process covers the following three steps.
- Selecting a Picture from the Choices and categories of pictures offered to you
- Selecting a Message that you are able to identify easily and personal to you
- Selecting Answers to some of the questions that are personal in nature (of which only you will have the answers)

How does selecting the Picture and the Message help you identify the correct HDFC Bank's NetBanking site? When you log on to NetBanking site and if you are a Secure Access registered customer, on the Password page, you should be able to see your Picture and the Phrase that you selected when you enrolled for Secure Access for the first time or as per your last modification, in case you are not able to see the same, this would mean you are not on the correct NetBanking site and you should not progress forward.

Is it compulsory to answer all the five questions? Yes, in order to complete your Secure Access registration, it is important and mandatory that all the five questions be answered. These questions are personal in nature and as such only you will have the answers to the same. Your responses to the Secure Access Registration" will be kept confidential by the Bank as per our privacy policy.

Can I upload my own picture as a Secure Access Image? No, you have to select the picture from the given categories on registration screen.

Can I use special characters in Secure Access Phrase? No, Special Characters can not be used in the Phrase that you choose to select for this service.

What if my NetBanking connection fails or there is a sudden disruption in service ? In case you are registering for the Secure Access service and the connection fails mid-way then you will have to restart the registration process once again.

Will I be asked questions every time I do a transaction? No, you will not be asked questions every time you do a transaction, depending on the nature of the transaction and a host of other variables, the system may ask you questions. Please do note that there is no human intervention involved here and the system will ask you questions based on a set of algorithms

How do I change my Secure Access Image and Challenge Questions/Answers? One can modify the answers to the Secure Access Image, Phrase and the Question Answers by clicking on the ''Modify Secure Access'' profile through NetBanking's Third Party Transfer Service.

What if my Secure Access ID gets locked? The Secure Access service rights will only get locked post the incorrect answers to the questions or not being able to answer.
In such a scenario, you will have to either call up PhoneBanking or visit the Branch and provide a written request for the same. Post your correct verification of the details, the Bank will unlock your Secure Access rights as well.
Why do I need to set up challenge questions? Challenge questions will be used to authenticate high risk transactions or online shopping transactions as an additional layer of security.

What If I forget the answers to the questions? Since the answers to the challenge questions are set by yourself as a customer, the chances are very less likely that you may forget the same.
However, if you forget the answers to the same please log in to Net Banking and click Third Party Transfer/ Accounts tab

FAQ's on Instant IPIN?

What is Insta IPIN ? Insta IPIN is the facility of online resetting of NetBanking password (IPIN). This allows the customer to access his/her account instantly incase they have forgotten or lost their NetBanking IPIN.

Who is eligible for using Insta IPIN facility? All HDFC Bank customers who are registered for NetBanking services and have an HDFC Bank Debit card (and no other variants of the HDFC Bank card) or have their mobile number updated can use Insta IPIN facility for online resetting of their NetBanking IPIN.
In case you are attempting to change password(IPIN) using HDFC debit card , plz note following card holders will not be able use this service :- ATM Card Number starting with 504492
- Maestro Card numbers starting with 603123

If I am not registered for NetBanking, can I use Insta IPIN facility to register for NetBanking ? No. You cannot use the Insta IPIN facility to register for NetBanking.We have the online NetBanking registration, you can use that.

If I use ATM PIN for online resetting of my NetBanking IPIN, will the ATM PIN get disabled/reset? No. Your ATM PIN will not get disabled/reset after using the Insta IPIN facility.

No. Your Third Party Funds Transfer services will not get disabled even after online resetting of your NetBanking IPIN using Insta IPIN facility.

Is there any limitation on the number of times one can use Insta IPIN facility for resetting the NetBanking IPIN ? No, there are no limitations. Insta IPIN is the facility of online resetting of NetBanking password (IPIN). This allows the customer to access his/her account instantly incase they have forgotten or lost their NetBanking IPIN. .

Are there any charges for using InstaIPIN facility ? No. Insta IPIN facility is FREE of cost.

What are the other method resetting of NetBanking Password (IPIN) (other than Insta IPIN option)? The other methods of regenerating the NetBanking Password IPIN are: .
- By calling the PhoneBanking Numbers or
- By walking into the nearest HDFC Bank ATM or

Where can I open a new Fixed Deposit? You can open a Fixed Deposit in any of our branches throughout the country.

What do you mean when you say that the transactions are "real time online"? We have designed the NetBanking service in such a way that it takes your requests and acts on them immediately. All transactions that will affect your balance (except Demand Draft request) are done automatically by the system.
For example - Funds Transfer, Stop Payment instructions, Fixed Deposit requests and the likes.
All the balances that are displayed to you are as of that instant and would cover transactions done by you over any of our channels.
When will my transactions affect my Account? Immediately! Except in the case of Demand Draft request, which will be processed during the banking hours on the next working day.

How will I know that my transaction has been completed? The NetBanking system does one of the following, depending upon the transaction you have requested:
- Displays the information requested
- Accepts your instruction and displays an appropriate message to the effect or gives you a transaction reference number which you may use in all future communication regarding the same
- Displays an appropriate message on why it cannot complete your transaction or asks you to try again

How safe are my requests/transactions on NetBanking? You can be assured of complete privacy when you use HDFC Bank's NetBanking facility. We have built several checks to safeguard your NetBanking transactions. Before you gain access to your account, you will be asked to enter your unique Customer ID and IPIN (password) to verify your identity. To maximise the security and confidentiality of your transactions, your password is not accessible to anyone, not even Bank employees.
When you bank with us on the Internet, you are always in a secure zone. To ensure the security of your transactions, we use a technology called Secured Socket Layer (SSL), which involves scrambling of the information between you and the Bank. If an unauthorised user tries to access your Account by keying in various combinations while trying to guess your password, your account will automatically get locked. Moreover, when you log in to NetBanking, your last date and time of log in will be displayed so that you can make sure that nobody has accessed your account.
In addition to these online security features, we have in place a dedicated team to monitor the access to the web server and to prevent unauthorised access.
These features work together to maximise security of your banking transactions. However, in order to ensure complete security, please remember to log out of NetBanking after you have completed your transactions. Know more.

What kind of hardware and software are recommended for using NetBanking more efficiently? Hardware: You need to have a Pentium PC with 32 MB RAM, 2.1 GB Hard Disk Space with 500MB free space.
Software: You need to have a browser: Internet Explorer Version 5.5 and above or Netscape Navigator Version 4.7 and above.
I cannot read some digits of the password. What should I do? The IPIN (password) is a number randomly generated by the system, and the only person having access to it is you. We would therefore request you to apply for regeneration of the password.

What is the process for regeneration of IPIN (password)? In case you have forgotten your password you can re- generate the same online.
Following are the steps that need to be followed for resetting your NetBanking IPIN online:- Click on the link 'Insta IPIN'
- Input your Customer ID and confirm
A list of HDFC Bank Debit Cards that are linked to the Customer ID will be shown. - Select any one of the linked Cards
- Kindly input your ATM PIN and Card expiry date
You will then be asked to reset your NetBanking password (IPIN) and confirm the same. - Re-login into NetBanking using the newly created password

I have 2 Accounts and Customer IDs. How do I know which password is valid for which Customer ID? For obvious security reasons we do not print the Customer ID or Account number on the password mailer sent to you. The only solution, therefore, is to try the two combinations of the Customer IDs and passwords that you have.

Why is my NetBanking IPIN (password) not functioning? There could be various reasons for the IPIN (password) not functioning. Few among them are:
- The IPIN (password) is case-sensitive and may not have been entered in the same lower or upper case as mentioned in the IPIN envelope sent to you
- The account has not been accessed for more than 180 days

How can I log in if I have forgotten my password? You need a new IPIN (password) to log in, in case you have forgotten your IPIN. For a new IPIN you can call PhoneBanking if you have a Telephone Identification Number (TIN)
OR
Download the PIN Regeneration Form (below), complete it and mail it to nearest P.O.Box or submit it at the nearest HDFC Bank branch
How do I change my password? To change your IPIN (password), please follow the instructions given below:
- Go to NetBanking login area and key in your Customer ID and password. The password is case-sensitive. Please key in the same lower or upper case as mentioned in the IPIN envelope.
- After you have logged in, you can change your password using the change password option. The password should be alphanumeric and less than or equal to 15 characters

I am getting the message "Access denied". What do I do? Reasons you could be locked out are:
- You have not used the NetBanking facility for more than 180 days
- You have entered the wrong IPIN (password) five (5) times and could be a user error on your part
- If you have forgotten your IPIN, then we have no choice but to regenerate it on an authenticated request from you

I have changed my password but am unable to use my old or new password. What am I supposed to do? This is possibly because:
- You have not keyed in the new IPIN (password) correctly
OR
- After 5 unsuccessful attempts, access to NetBanking has been disabled for security reasons.
What you can do now is:
- If you remember your IPIN click here to submit a request for enabling your access to NetBanking
- If you have forgotten your IPIN you need to submit a request for regeneration
- You can call PhoneBanking if you have a Telephone Identification Number (TIN)

How can I block my IPIN (password)? We require a written instruction from you to block your IPIN.

Your Card should be in regular status for accessing your Card Account through NetBanking.

Is there any charge for Credit Cards NetBanking service? No. This service is offered free of charge

How can I register for Credit Cards NetBanking service? The process for registering your Credit Card for NetBanking is easy.
- If you are an HDFC Bank Account Holder and have already registered
for NetBanking,
Step 1: Choose "NetBanking" on the HDFC Bank website and click on Login
Step 2: On the next page click on "Continue" button
Step 3: Now you are on NetBanking login page. Please type your Customer ID and NetBanking password (IPIN) to log in. This brings you on the NetBanking page that displays all your Account details and other transaction options
Step 4: Please click on "Credit Cards" tab
Step 5: Click on "Register New Card" option on the left hand side panel
Step 6: Please enter your 16-digit HDFC Bank Credit Card number, expiry date and your Credit Card PIN number and click on "Submit" to link your Card to your NetBanking ID

(This is the total credit limit assigned to you at the time of Card activation) - Available credit limit

How can I de-register for the Credit Cards NetBanking service? Please click on the de-register option on the left hand side panel and select the Card number for discontinuing NetBanking facility for your Card.

How can I register for Credit Cards NetBanking if I don't have my Credit Card ATM PIN? You can call up your nearest Credit Cards customer service number to request for the generation of a new ATM PIN. You can register for Credit Cards NetBanking once you get your new ATM PIN.

What are the measures I can take to ensure greater security? - You should log out from NetBanking when leaving your PC
- Change your password continuously; choose "strong" 6 to 8 digit passwords (alphanumeric). Avoid obvious passwords (names of family members, pets, favourite musician, etc), and don't reveal your password to anyone
- You should not write down your password on any paper, which may be easily accessible to anyone
- Put in a power-on password in your machine so that nobody else can switch on your machine
- Have a screensaver password so that when you are away from your workstation nobody else can access it
- If you think someone knows your password, go online and change it immediately
- If you are using the Internet in a public place (e.g. a Cyber Cafe), do not leave the PC unattended and ensure that no one is watching what you type
- Log off from NetBanking upon completion of your session by clicking on the log out button, so that the session closes and not by shutting the window. This will prevent the viewing of previous pages of your online session via your PC
- You should consider running a Personal Firewall, which will prevent unauthorised persons from accessing your computer and guard against the introduction of malicious programs onto your PC

What are the charges and limits for NEFT ? Effective 16th Jan 2010 NEFT transactions on NetBanking would be charged as below:
- Upto Rs. 1 lac. - Rs. 5 (inclusive of taxes) per transaction
- Rs. 1 lac and above - Rs. 25 (inclusive of taxes) per transaction
The maximum amount of funds that can be transferred per cust id per day is Rs. 10 lacs.

I want to register for Third Party Transfer. (NRE/NRO Account)? To transfer funds from your account to another HDFC Bank account or an account with another Bank, you need to register for “Third Party Transfer” (TPT) facility.
Please follow the instructions below to register for TPT facility
Step 1) Fill up the TPT application form available at the Branch (duly signed by the account holder/s).
Step 2) Submit / send it to the HDFC Bank Branch where your account is held.
Step 3) All TPT requests submitted at the branch need to be accompanied with the original Photo ID proof and a self attested copy of the same.
NRI Customers unable to visit the branch, can submit the TPT registration form along with self attested Photo ID Proof.
Note / Important:- Request received through Phone Banking, NetBanking, e-mail, scanned, or faxed copy will not be processed.
- If your form is in order, the TPT facility will get activated within 4 working days (if submitted in a HDFC Bank Branch) from the date of receipt of your request.
- Incase you are located in Gulf, you may submit the TPT application at any of our representative offices.
