Silent victims of the pandemic

The less privileged and marginalised in society have been most affected by the pandemic. Struggling harder now to make ends meet, women and young girls in rural and semi-urban India have no access to basic hygiene products like sanitary napkins. As a result, many are suffering from infectious diseases, and some have even succumbed to it.

Stree Swabhiman is an initiative launched by CSC Academy, the CSR arm of the Government’s Common Services Centre (CSC). Under it, almost 1,000 sanitary napkin manufacturing units have been set up across the country to provide employment opportunities for rural women. 6-10 Women Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) are employed in each manufacturing unit. These manufacturing units distribute sanitary napkins to women in their area.

How does that make a difference?

  • Facilitates access to sanitary napkins for rural women and young girls
  • Improves women’s health and hygiene
  • Creates employment opportunities for rural women
  • Makes women financially independent, self-reliant and confident

How is HDFC Bank supporting Stree Swabhiman?

Through this initiative, HDFC Bank has supported the sanitary needs of 12,550 women.

The Bank would also like to encourage everyone to contribute, by sponsoring free sanitary napkins to women and young girls in rural/semi-urban areas for a year.

How can you support?

It costs Rs. 500 to provide a year's supply of sanitary napkins for one woman.

Your donation made to the CSC Academy will provide free sanitary pads to women and young girls in rural/semi-urban areas.
