What is IMPS?
IMPS stands for Interbank Mobile Payment Service. It is an instant interbank electronic fund transfer service, which you can use with your mobile phone. As an HDFC Bank customer you can send money instantly to anyone in any participating bank (including another HDFC Bank customer) who is registered for IMPS via the MobileBanking service. How does this transfer happen in real time?
We have set up a system with our participating banks, in association with the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI), to enable real time fund transfers between banks. We do our best to make your banking as easy as possible.

What is MMID?
MMID stands for ‘Mobile Money Identifier’. A 7 digit MMID unique code will be issued to you by your bank to enable you to avail of IMPS when you have to receive money. You will have different MMID's for different accounts; however, all these can be linked to a single mobile number.

Do I, as sender or receiver, need to have a bank account to use IMPS?

All you have to do is specify the particular account from which you want to send money during the transaction.

Is my beneficiary also required to register for IMPS?
Yes, your beneficiary (either an HDFC Bank customer or another Bank’s customer) has to have his/her mobile number registered with his/her respective bank in which the account is hosted. Your beneficiary should also have a valid 7 digit MMID provided by his/her bank. Just as you have, your beneficiary will also have a unique MMID for each bank account linked to his/her mobile number.

What details of my beneficiary do I need to send money?
You will need your beneficiary’s 10 digit mobile number and MMID to send money.

Is there any limit on the value of transactions when I am receiving money using IMPS?
HDFC Bank has not put any limit on the amount of money that the beneficiary can receive using IMPS. However, the remitting Bank may put a limit on maximum amount of funds that can be transfered in one transaction/day.

What if I lose my mobile phone, will someone who finds it be able to send money from my account using IMPS?
No. The person will have to know your Customer ID, IPIN or mChek PIN in order to authenticate any transaction. You should be careful not to divulge your personal details to anyone.

What happens in case I enter a wrong beneficiary mobile number when sending money?
You will have to enter both a mobile number and MMID to initiate a money transfer and funds will be credited to an account. This is another reason why this service is safe.
