What is BillPay?
BillPay is a facility that allows a customer to pay his electricity, telephone, postpaid mobile bills as well as Insurance premiums etc through HDFC Bank's Direct Banking Channels - ATM, PhoneBanking or NetBanking.

How does BillPay work?
HDFC Bank has tied up with a host of electricity, telephone, mobile phone, insurance companies etc. When you register for BillPay, your billing details are made available to us while you continue to get your bills. So when you opt to pay your utility bills, your details are read out on PhoneBanking or displayed at the ATMs, NetBanking and you can confirm the bill payment. In case of mobile bills, no bill details are displayed and you need to enter the bill amount and confirm payment.

Am I eligible for BillPay?
Any savings account holder (single, joint, with either or survivor mandate) or a sole proprietorship current account holder is eligible.

How can I register for BillPay facility?
There are two ways to register:
- You can register online for BillPay on HDFC Bank website.
- You can also walk down to the nearest branch and fill up "BillPay Registration Form". You can also download the form and submit the filled form at the nearest HDFC Bank branch with a copy of your last paid bill.

How many billing companies, can a person register for?
You can register for ten different telephone numbers (landline + mobile) and ten different consumer numbers of electricity companies and ten different insurance policies.

Will I get any confirmation regarding the registration for Bill Pay?
We will send you registration letter within 15 days of the registration.
Incase you have applied online and your registration got declined; the same will be communicated to you over an email with the reason for the same.

When can I start paying my bills through this facility?
For mobile phone bills starting 7 days from registration.
For electricity / telephone / insurance companies 4 - 6 weeks after registration depending on the billing cycle you fall in.
This service is absolutely free for you w.e.f 1st August'2011.

How can I pay my bills?
You would be able to pay your bills through various channels like ATM, NetBanking, PhoneBanking. Insurance premiums can be paid only through NetBanking.

Can I get some communication from your side informing me that the bill has been uploaded?
Yes, in case of Utility companies, which provide bill details to the Bank, you can receive an Alert on your Mobile or E Mail id once your bill is uploaded. For this facility you need to separately register for InstaAlert (Alert Type - Utility Payment Due Alert).

What is the charges for BillPay?
This service is absolutely free for you w.e.f 1st August'2011.

Once I pay the bill, when will my account get debited and when will the utility company receive my payment?
On payment of the bill your account will get immediately debited online and the payment is sent to the utility company within 3 working days.

What proof of payment do I have when I pay through Bill Pay?
When your payment has been successfully made, you get a reference number for your transaction. Your account statement will also include the details of your transaction.

If I am registered for BillPay in a city, can I pay my bills from any other city?
Yes, you can pay your bills from any location through ATM and Net Banking.
E.g. If you are registered for MTNL at Mumbai, and you are currently in Bangalore, even then you can view and pay your MTNL bill through any of the above-mentioned channels.

Can I use the BillPay service to pay bills even if the bill is not in my name?
You can register and pay bills from your accounts, even if the bills are not in your name.

Will I still receive my physical bill?
You will continue to receive your Physical bill even after registering for the service with us.

How can I cancel my registration?
You can de-register from BillPay service by submitting an application at the nearest HDFC Bank branch.

I have changed my mobile service provider using Mobile number Portability option for my registered mobile bill. Will my biller registration remain valid?
If you are already registered for Bill Pay Service for your mobile bill and you have changed your service provider e.g. from Idea to Vodafone etc, (through Mobile number portability 'MNP' option), your existing registered billing details will no longer be valid and the payment done would not go to the new service provider. You will have to de-register your Bill Pay facility for your existing mobile service provider by giving written request at nearest branch. Once the de-registration is successfully done you may once again register for Bill Pay facility for your new mobile service provider by filling up the Bill Pay registration form and submitting to the branch or through 'Add Biller' option on the website.

As per the Finance Bill 2009, all fees and charges mentioned above will attract Service Tax @ 10% and Education Cess @ 3% of the service tax amount effective 24th February 2009. |
