With this service, you are protected against any unauthorized purchases from your Credit / Debit card even before it happens. All you have to do it confirm your identity with a unique password for every online purchase. What is Verified by Visa (VBV)/ SecureCode about?
Verified by Visa (VBV)/ MasterCard SecureCode is a service from Visa/ MasterCard and HDFC Bank that lets you shop online securely with your existing Visa/ MasterCard Debit and Credit cards.
Verified by Visa (VBV)/ SecureCode provides you with a password to protect your online transactions just like you use your PIN at the ATM.
Important note: Register for Verified By Visa (VBV)/ SecureCode for enhanced security and to avoid decline of your Credit/Debit Card internet transactions.
How to use Verified by Visa (VBV)/ SecureCode?
- Select the goods and services you want from the merchant site and proceed to the payment page.
- Enter your HDFC Bank Visa/MasterCard Card number and the online store will connect with HDFC Bank to check whether your card is secured with Verified by Visa (VBV)/ SecureCode.
- HDFC Bank initiates a Verified by Visa (VBV)/ SecureCode pop up window on your computer screen that includes your personal message.
- Look for, and confirm your personal message, then enter your password. HDFC Bank will then confirm your identity to the merchant.

If you are a Visa Credit Card holder, then you can avail of the Verified by Visa service. Alternatively, if you are a MasterCard Credit Card holder, then MasterCard SecureCode is the service for you.
So register your HDFC Bank Credit/ Debit Cards for Verified by Visa (VBV) and MasterCard SecureCode and forget all your worries!
Register your Credit Card through the HDFC Bank website:
- Click on "Register Now"
- Click on "I Accept"
- Enter your Credit Card number & the Credit Card Expiry Date
- Enter ATM PIN or CVV2/DOB along with mobile no. & email id. Your mobile no. & Email id has to match with your details in our Credit Card records.
- On submission of above details and subsequent validation, the last page of registration appears.
- Please enter your name, Shared secret, Login id and to choose the desired password. The password you create here can be used for performing secure online transactions on participating websites.
- Submission of these details will complete the registration process
Register your Credit Card while shopping online:
- Select the goods and services you want from the VbV/ MSC store and proceed to the payment page.
- Enter your HDFC Bank Card number and the online store will connect with HDFC Bank to check whether your card is secured with VbV/ MSC.
- HDFC Bank initiates a VbV/ MasterCard SecureCode pop up window on your computer screen.
- Enter the Credit Card no. & the Credit Card Expiry date
- Enter ATM PIN or CVV2/DOB along with mobile no. & email id. Mobile no. & email id have to match with your details in Vision Plus our Credit Card records
- On submission of above details and subsequent validation, the last page of registration appears.
- Your password has to be created here, which can be used for performing secure online transactions on participating websites.
Register your Debit Card through the HDFC Bank website:
- Click on the link Netsafe/Verified by Visa/MasterCard SecureCode link
- Click on ‘Register Now’
- Click on ’I Accept’ after reading the Terms and Conditions
- Enter your Debit Card number and expiry date
- Enter your PIN number to proceed
- Enter your details and create your login ID, password and personal assurance messageWhen you register for the Verified by Visa service, you are asked to create a Personal Assurance Message. When you pay online, always look for this Personal Assurance Message or Personal Message – it is your assurance that it is your HDFC Bank that is authenticating you. or shared secret.
Your Debit Card is now duly registered for safe online transactions. You just need to enter the password every time you shop online.
Register your Debit Card while shopping online:
- Select the goods / services you want to purchase from the Verified By Visa (VBV) / MasterCard SecureCode (MSC) enabled website and proceed to the payment page
- Enter your HDFC Bank Debit number and the online store will check with HDFC Bank whether your card is registered for VBV / MSC
- A VBV / MSC pop-up window will open on your computer screen
- Enter your Debit number, Debit Card expiry date, PIN and your email ID Your ‘Login ID’ will be communicated to you on this email ID
- Enter your details and create your password
We will then confirm your identity to the merchant and you can successfully complete your online shopping.
Have questions?
Can I get the benefit of Verified by Visa/ MasterCard SecureCode security at online stores that are not participating in the service?
No. you can only get the benefits of Verified by Visa/ MasterCard SecureCode at the participating online stores.
However a number of online stores have the service available to them. In the meantime, if an online stores you trust is not yet participating; you can perform the transaction using NetSafe.

What are the other things that I need to keep in mind about the IVR Password using Verified by Visa/Mastercard Secure Code?
If you have provided 2 email IDs for our records, you need to enter any one of them for validation.
Also if your email ID and mobile number are not updated, please have the details updated in our system by calling our Customer Care Centre, and attempt to register later. It is mandatory to have at least one email ID and one mobile number registered. The same will apply if there is a recent change in your mobile number or email ID.
What will happen if I try to register again & generate an OTP within 2 hours?
You will get a pop-up message stating "Your earlier request is being processed. If you do not receive your OTPOTP is a One time password that is valid for only one specific transaction within 2 hours, please try again later".
