    Service Tax for online transfers

    • For Amount of currency exchanged up to Rs.100,000 - tax * will be 0.12% of amount, or min Rs.30/-
    • For Amount of currency exchanged above Rs.100,000 up to Rs.1,000,000 - tax * will be Rs.120 + 0.06% of incremental amount above Rs.100,000

      * Education Cess @ 3% on the amount of service tax
    • In additon to the service tax there will be a education cess of 2 % on the service tax amount and higher education cess of 1% on the service tax amount
    • Additionally, in case there is a Demand Draft drawn on Non-HDFC Bank location, extra fee of Rs. 0.75 per thousand (minimum amount of fee - Rs. 20) will be deducted.
      Fees and charges are subject to change; HDFC Bank reserves the right to modify the charge schedule without prior notice.

    Transaction limits for online transfers

  • Registration Process

    • Select an individual Checking Account or Savings Account with a US bank affiliated to the Automated Clearing House (ACH) network
    • Provide us your social security number, US bank account number, account type and bank's 9 digit ABA Routing for a one-time registration process
    • Submit your US bank account details for verification. This ensures that only you can use the account, minus any misuse. The validation and activation processes involve the following steps:
      • A nominal amount in cents is debited and credited to your account by HDFC Bank
      • Quickremit intimates you by e-mail that the test debit and credit amount has been initiated to your account
      • You have to refer to your Bank Statement to find out the exact amount that is debited and credited
      • Your Quickremit transaction status shows "Click to Verify". Enter the exact amount in the space provided
      • If the details match the actual transactions carried out by us, your account is activated
    • Get an email notification on account activation. Check the verification status by logging in to Quickremit
    • Start remitting after successful verification of your account

    • Funds are transferred from your US bank account via Automated Clearing House (ACH) mechanism. ACH network is a reliable and efficient nationwide electronic funds transfer system governed by the National Automated Clearing House Association's operating rules that authorise inter-bank clearing of electronic payments
    • Since this is an online transfer, there are certain transaction limits:
      • USD 100 is the minimum amount required to execute a transaction
      • USD 5000 is the maximum amount that can be sent in 1 transaction

    • Generally, money gets transferred to us on the 4th working day from the date of booking your remittance. Just ensure that your account has sufficient funds for the transfer to take place. All holidays - weekends and public holidays - in India and the US are excluded while calculating working days.

    • Log in to Quickremit to check the transaction status on the Online Tracker
    • If your transaction status reads "Funds in Clearing" then it means that we haven't received credit. As soon as we receive the money, the notification changes without delaying payment to the recipient in India.

    How do I make an online transfer from the United States?

    As a first-time user of Quickremit, you have to complete a one-time registration process. Post that you are required to add your US Bank account details, which are ascertained through a verification process that takes 4 working days. You can book a remittance after successful verification of your account. You will be notified by email once your account is activated. To check the verification status, log in to Quickremit.

    What information do I need to furnish for the one-time registration process?

    For one-time registration, you need to provide the following details:

    • Social security number
    • US Bank account number
    • Account type
    • US Bank's 9 digit ABA Routing number

    How are the funds transferred from my US bank account?

    Funds are transferred from your US bank account via Automated Clearing House (ACH) mechanism.
    The ACH network is a reliable and efficient nationwide electronic funds transfer system in the US, governed by the National Automated Clearing House Association's operating rules that authorise inter-bank clearing of electronic payments.

    What are the account validation and activation processes?

    The account validation process is undertaken to prevent any misuse of your account. It ensures that only the account holder can use this facility. The validation and activation processes involve the following steps:

    • A nominal amount in cents is debited and credited to your account by HDFC Bank
    • Quickremit intimates you by email that the test debit and credit amount has been initiated to your account
    • You must refer to your Bank Statement for the exact amount that is debited and credited
    • When you log on to Quickremit, your transaction status will show, "Click to Verify". You need to enter the exact amount in the space provided
    • If the details match the actual transactions carried out by us, your account is activated

    My Bank account has been posted with account validation entries. However, I cannot enter the same on the website. What should I do?

    Account validation entries are posted to your Bank account on the 2nd or 3rd working day after you complete the one-time registration for online transfers. We email you on the 3rd working day outlining details of the account validation process, subsequent to which you can enter the amount on the website. We request you to wait for our email with details and then make entries on the website.

    Why do I see "Money in Clearing" on the Online Tracker when my account has already been debited?

    Though it is a Direct Debit transaction, we do not receive the credit immediately and hence the status may read as "Funds in Clearing". This status notification changes as soon as we receive the money. However, there is no delay in sending your remittance to the recipient in India.

    What type of US bank accounts can be used for online transfers?

    For online transfers, you can use an individual Checking Account or an individual Savings Account with a US bank affiliated to the ACH network.

    When is money transferred from my Bank account?

    Can I send money from a 3rd party account?

    No. As per the compliance process, you need to send money from your own overseas account only.

    If I have already used my existing yearly money transfer limit, can I enhance it?

    Yes, you can, provided you are holding an NRE/NRO Account with HDFC Bank. To enhance your limit, click here and submit the online form.
