1. What is UPI?
Unified Payment Interface - UPI is a new transaction technology to enable account to account transfer in an easy and faster way by means of a UPI ID. The new eco system for such transactions has been provided through National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). UPI can also be used to pay merchants who accept UPI as a payment mode.
2. How is UPI different from the existing payment systems?
In the present system, to make any transaction the account holder’s bank account and IFSC code is needed. But using UPI, all one needs is a UPI ID which is unique to you and it camouflages the bank and personal detail of the user or the receiver behind it. Also, there is no pre - registration required for the beneficiary.
3. What are the transactions available in MobileBanking app under UPI?
The below transactions for UPI will be available on MobileBanking app -
- Registration - Create UPI ID and link Bank account (HDFC Bank or non HDFC Bank)
- Add Account - Link account with UPI ID
- Pay - Send funds through UPI ID
- Collect - Request funds through UPI ID
- Balance Enquiry - Check balance of account linked to UPI ID
- Set MPIN
- Change MPIN
- Transaction History
- Account Management - Remove Account, Set Default Account, View Profile
4. Do I need to register for UPI facility?
You need to create a UPI ID and link your Bank account to it for availing the UPI facility.
5. What is UPI ID?
UPI ID is an identifier created by you which is uniquely mapped to your bank account and can be used to send or receive payments in UPI system. For e.g - abc@hdfcbank where “abc” is a unique name that you can choose for yourself that can be uniquely mapped to an individual account using a translation service.
6. Who can create a Unified Payment Interphase ID (UPI ID)?
Any customer with a mobile phone and a bank account with an IMPS enabled Bank will be able to create a UPI ID for either receiving or transferring money through UPI from HDFC Bank’s MobileBanking App.
7. Can I link a non HDFC Bank account to my UPI ID from within the HDFC Bank MobileBanking app?
Yes, you can link any Bank account - HDFC Bank or non HDFC Bank to your UPI ID from within the HDFC Bank MobileBanking App.
8. Can I link multiple accounts to the same UPI ID?
Yes you can link multiple accounts to the same UPI ID. However you will have to set a default account for sending and receiving money for the particular ID
9. Can I link a card or a wallet to my UPI ID?
No only your bank account can be linked to a UPI ID
10. Is my UPI ID unique to me?
The combination of your UPI ID and bank handle will be unique to you. e.g - abc@hdfcbank
11. How can I register for UPI with HDFC Bank?
You can register for UPI by following below path on HDFC Bank MobileBanking App.
HDFC Bank MobileBanking App -> UPI -> Registration. Under this option, you need to create your UPI ID and link your account to it. You can use later on for pay and collect funds using UPI.
12. How can I initiate fund transfer using UPI with HDFC Bank?
- Launch the HDFC Bank MobileBanking App and go to UPI option.
- Go to Pay option
- Select the account from which payment is to be made
- Select the Payee Address Type as UPI ID
- Enter the UPI ID of the payee, amount and description and confirm
- Enter your MPIN and complete the transaction
13. How can I ask for funds using UPI with HDFC Bank?
- Launch the HDFC Bank MobileBanking App and go to UPI option.
- Go to Collect Option
- Enter the UPI ID of the payer
- Enter the amount and description
- Set the Expiry Duration and Initiate request
14. What is the timeline to approve a collect request by a payer?
The timeline to approve a collect request needs to be defined by the payer when initiating the Collect request.
15. How secure is fund transfer through UPI?
UPI is very safe and secure. You can carry out UPI transactions only from your Bank registered mobile number and device. All your transactions are secured by a 4-digit secret MPIN known only to you.
16. How long does it take for the money to get credited into the beneficiary account?
For successful transactions, funds get credited into the beneficiary's account instantaneously
17. Can I put a stop payment request for funds transferred by UPI?
No, once payment is initiated, it cannot be stopped.
18. Do I need to register the beneficiary from my MobileBanking App before transferring funds?
No registration for beneficiary is not required for transferring funds through UPI. All you need to know is the beneficiary’s UPI ID or Aadhaar Number +IIN or Account No + IFSC Code or Mobile Number + MMID.
19. I want to de-register my account for UPI. How can this be done?
You can go to Manage Account -> View Profile and de-register for UPI.
20. Where can I see my past transactions?
You can view your past transactions under the Transaction History option.
21. How can I register a complaint for my UPI transaction?
You can go to Transaction History and click on Raise Dispute option against the UPI transaction
22. How can I view my account balance?
To view your balance, go to Balance Enquiry -> Select Account -> Submit. Enter your MPIN for authentication and you will get your account balance.
23. What are the limits for sending and receiving money through UPI?
The maximum per transaction UPI limit from HDFC Bank Account is Rs 10,000/- and the maximum per day limit is Rs 25,000/-
24. Are there any charges for transactions through UPI?
Currently there are no charges for transactions through UPI.
25. Can I transfer money abroad using UPI?
No, you cannot transfer money abroad through this option.
26. Can I link my NRE/NRO Account under UPI?
No, NRE/NRO account cannot be linked for UPI.
27. Will I be able to use UPI across all platforms?
Yes, UPI will work on Android currently and will soon be launched for iOS and Windows.
Q 28. What to do in case mobile number is linked to multiple Customer IDs?
Incase the customer's mobile number is updated in multiple Customer IDs, he/she would not be able to create UPI ID. To generate UPI ID the customer needs to link the mobile number to a single Customer ID only.
